> One more title shot for Vernay and Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team in Macau

Seven drivers will hope they hold the trump card when the inaugural WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup heads for a season showdown in Macau this weekend. Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team drivers, Jay Kay Vernay & Gordon Flash Shedden, motivated ahead of Race of Macau despite the Audi RS3 LMS being once again the heaviest car with 60 kg of extra ballast.

Macau’s 6.1 km Circuito da Guia blends twisty turns and narrow blasts with long, wide-open straights and sweeping corners to create one of the most demanding and spectacular street circuits on the planet. Touring car racing has been held in this Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China for more than half a century, with the famous Guia Race first run in 1972.

The top seven drivers in the standings start WTCR Race of Macau covered by 79 points. With 87 points up for grabs, the title race remains wide open heading to the inaugural season finale. Jean-Karl Vernay will start this week still in title contention on the demanding Circuito da Guia.

The Frenchman won the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix Qualifying Race in 2009 but had to settle for second behind then team-mate Edoardo Mortara in the Main Race:

I’m even more motivated for that because I don’t have a FIA title. I was second in the World Cup in Macau in F3 but there will be a lot more of contenders that can win and you have to be at your best to have a chance. It will be very challenging and my team-mate is already a good contender”.

Gordon Shedden scored his maiden WTCR victory on the streets of Wuhan in China last month. And after a tough Race of Japan at Suzuka recently, the Briton will be keen to replicate his Wuhan form in the Suncity Group Guia Race at the wheel of his Audi RS 3 LMS:

We’ve had great results at street circuits this year as we were fast off the blocks in Morocco, had my first pole and just missed the podium at Vila Real, and then Wuhan was fantastic for us – so I’m hopeful we can end the season on a bit of a high”.
